Recording money

Importing from CSV or Excel

Bring a bank statement in as transactions, with a review step before anything is written.

What is accepted

CSV and Excel (.xlsx) files up to 5 MB. The first row must name the columns. For a workbook, only the first sheet is read — a statement export is one sheet, and guessing which of several you meant would be inventing something about your money.

Nothing is written until you say so

Lumio shows you every row it found, which columns it matched to which fields, and any rows it could not read. You confirm before a single transaction is created.

If your file has no category column, you can pick one default for the whole import — and optionally let Lumio use a suggested category where it recognises the merchant with confidence.

Duplicates

Rows identical to something already recorded are skipped by default, which matters when you import an overlapping date range twice. You can choose to import them anyway.

What happens to the file afterwards

The rows Lumio parsed are kept only while the import can still be completed — 24 hours — and are cleared after that. The transactions it created are yours and stay until you delete them.
