Categories, and how suggestions work
Shaping your own categories, and what Lumio does when it recognises a merchant.
Your categories are yours
Lumio starts you with a set covering the common cases and you can add, rename or archive any of them in Settings. Archiving keeps historical transactions labelled correctly while removing the category from new entries — nothing is relabelled behind you.
What the suggestions are
When importing, Lumio matches each description against a fixed list of patterns — recognisable local merchants like Chip Mong, PassApp and Smart Axiata among them. That matching happens on Lumio's own servers, uses no outside service, and builds no profile of you.
A suggestion is never applied on its own. It is shown so you can see what was recognised, and only used if you tick the box asking for the confident ones.
Why it sometimes says nothing
Silence is deliberate. A generic word like “market” is not grounds to categorise a transaction, so Lumio distinguishes an unambiguous brand from a common word and stays quiet about the second.
