Currency and how amounts are handled

Why Lumio is careful about Riel, and where to change currency.

Riel and dollars behave differently

US dollars have cents; Riel does not. Lumio stores every amount as a whole number of the smallest unit of its currency and never as a decimal, so repeated arithmetic cannot drift the way floating-point money does.

In practice this means ៛850,000 is exactly ៛850,000 — not ៛8,500.00 — and $85.50 stays $85.50 after any number of recalculations.

Changing your currency

Currency lives in Settings. Changing it changes how amounts are displayed and entered; it does not convert what you have already recorded, and Lumio does not apply an exchange rate, because guessing a rate would invent a number about your money.
